How to bear fruit in your relationship with God

In every season of your life, God wants you to know that through Him you can bear fruit and make visible progress throughout your life. This cannot happen until you understand that God desires you to succeed in life, John 10:10.

Every time God wants to help mankind sustainably He helps their understanding. He does this through the Holy Spirit and His word from the Bible. The reason why the Holy Spirit is called a helper and the spirit of truth is that through Him you are guided into all truth and He always helps you understand what God wants you to know in any time or season of your life, and remain consistent with the current word of God for you.

This is why in John 16:13 NLT Jesus said, “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.”

In your life, God wants to help you produce results and continue to bear fruit. He wants to show you more about your life than you probably dream of now and for your future. One such way is through his speaking to you and through tangible results that He helps you to produce in your life.

When your life does not have spiritually produced results from your day-to-day efforts, you will not enjoy or feel fulfilled. To bear fruit as Jesus puts it in John 15:5 KJV, you must yield to the Holy Spirit in your endeavours in life. He said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

But why bear fruit, to what end is it?Bear fruit to fulfil God’s will in your lifeBear fruit to show forth God’s righteousnessBear fruit because of your love and intimacy with GodBear fruit to reveal God to others and give glory to GodThree knowledge areas that help you to bear fruit by God.

But why bear fruit, to what end is it?

“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:8 NIV

Our life should aim to please and glorify God in everything we want to achieve. Anything you do unto self-gratification or achievement never counts toward the correct way of living. That is why many people are never satisfied in life.

Have you ever wondered why a celebrity, a millionaire or a billionaire would kill Himself despite having all the money in the world? It just doesn’t make any sense. When you study the cases deeply you will realise that a lot were living for self gain, not unto what pleases God. The truth is that nothing done or achieved without God at the centre is fulfilling to the human spirit.

God always wants you to be fulfilled spiritually first and then enjoy tangible blessings from Him, these blessings can be things such as physical achievements and attainments that you see at different stages of your life.

In John 15:16 NIV it says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

Bear fruit to fulfil God’s will in your life

One reason you have to bear fruit in your life is so that you fulfil God’s will for your life. He wants you and I to produce results unto Him. He designed your life to be specific and noteworthy for His purpose and design, Ephesians 2:10.

Everything about you belongs to God, He created you for a purpose, and whatever you produce in life was planned all from the beginning according to what God made you to become. Whatever you desire or pursue in life make sure you don’t fight God, choose the easy life, yield to Him and He will give you a better life than the one you are living right now, James 4:7-10.

Bear fruit to show forth God’s righteousness

The second reason is so that you can prove that God indeed is working in your life, John 4:48. As you bear fruit, you become a fulfilled life and will always give glory back to God. You do not amass, wealth, riches or honour unto yourself, but you earn these rewards of living in right standing with God. A life where you never feel the pressure of the world on your shoulders because God carries all the burdens of life together with you, Matthew 11:28-29 KJV. This is why we are expected to command supernatural results in life, as shown by the apostles in Acts 4:33.

However, such supernatural results do not just happen, they happen with the help of the Holy Spirit in your life. Results that are even beyond what you can achieve on your own, if you try to achieve things in life on your own, without God’s help you could end up unfulfilled, and God forbid, do what those celebrities, millionaires and billionaires do in the end.

Bear fruit because of your love and intimacy with God

As you grow in your knowledge of God, you also develop a deeper love for Him. In any relationship, the more you spend time with someone the more you learn about them, and begin to love them despite their faults, mistakes or shortcomings.

Your intimacy with God naturally produces more results and the derivative of this is that you will naturally bear fruit. So if there are no tangible results in your life that point back to God, do you love Him?

If it’s true that you love God, but the results don’t reveal His presence in your life then examine why your life is not producing results. It’s not only about making progress in life ultimately but about your love for God. A love that compels other men who come into contact with you that God is real.

Bear fruit to reveal God to others and give glory to God

When you bear fruit, this also shows the people and world around you that God is real in your life. The world wants to hear and see the power of God in your life somehow, and not hear of it only. Jesus showed us the results that came because of His connection to the Father, through the miracles, signs and wonders He performed.

So when you make a covenant with your destiny that you must never live an ordinary life, let God help you through the Holy Spirit and begin to produce results from what God has given you. Your life should become in experience the manifestation of the glory of God. God’s goal for the believer, is to evolve in experience until you become the manifestation of the glory of God.

A life that is admirable, desirable, and valuable unto those who see Him working through you, Matthew 5:16. The ability to produce results and bear fruit to the glory of God is governed by spiritual laws, that is why the bible says, “Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”, Daniel 11:32

Three knowledge areas that help you to bear fruit by God.

Knowing God for yourself

Knowing the principles of God

Knowing how to walk by Faith

Right now first establish within yourself that God wants you to produce results. He wants you to bear fruit, and that fruit to always last, John 15:16. If this is not seen in your life, then He fights for you to get to this point in your life, where you give glory to His name because the devil never wants you to achieve anything in your relationship with God, remember John 10:10.

In a future post, I will share more about the three knowledge areas that are important to have for you to start producing results as a believer. God wants the best for you, according to His will because your life’s present and future success depend on Him as your maker.

If you are not yet a believer in Jesus Christ, then your life will be full of painful labour, and sorrows. So your first step is to welcome Jesus into your heart, and let him be the Lord of your life, take the first step here by praying to Him, repenting of your ways, accepting Him as Lord and welcoming Jesus into your heart. Then from there on begin to live and let Him guide you into a life where you bear much fruit.
