Infertility encouragement: 5 life-changing scriptures to help you through

Dear childless woman, infertility is not your identity. Although we live in a broken world, whose focus has shifted to what we have rather than who we are, your identity is found in Jesus Christ. The focus of every woman chronicled in the bible was first her character. Look at the Proverbs 31 woman, for example, her headline was noble. Not her looks, not her ability to multitask, her past, nor her infertility. What I find most intriguing is some of the greatest men that ever lived to fulfill God’s purpose and cause shifts for generations came from women that were said to be barren.

I know infertility or delayed conception months or years in your marriage is hard. It becomes even harder when coupled with stares, and the questions that follow from loved ones, well-wishers, or haters. I understand the emotional turmoil that comes from the ‘pregnancy symptoms’ we feel every month only to be met by disappointment at the time of our expected cycle. It is not your fault, so get that out of your head.

Now I say to you again, dear anointed woman, you are in God’s original plan. You have a name and a purpose given to you by God. This is a season building up to the manifestation of the promise. Your child is a child of promise. Therefore, you have been called to birth and/or raise children to the reverence of the Lord. Many are the children that shall be birthed through you, even when you seem to suffer from infertility. Do not be discouraged, all biblical women who were said to be barren eventually gave birth.

To help you out, I have designed a devotional (available on Amazon), with scripture, encouragement, and prayer based on these women. This devotional journal will help you understand what God says about you and help you overcome feelings of despair and discouragement on your journey.

When you have advanced in age but still no child’Do I open the womb and not deliver the baby? Do I, the One who delivers babies, shut the womb?’ Isaiah 66:9When you have been bitterly mocked by your family ‘Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.’ Psalms 126:5-6 When you have done everything you know to do with infertility’But those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.’ Psalms 34:10b When history seems to be repeating itself’Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. ‘ 2 Corinthians 5:17 When you have lost your husband before having children’Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.’ Isaiah 61:7

This is for you my dear sister. I do not know what you are going through, but I understand. Whatever the circumstance surrounding your barrenness or childlessness is, whether spiritual or natural, there is a woman who went through the exact same thing. Remember this, all biblical women who were said to be barren (with the exception of Michal), eventually gave birth. God is encouraging us through these women who gave birth to children of promise. Likewise, because God is on our side, the odds are for you.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ who died for my sins on the cross. I believe that He is the Son of God, who died, was raised, and lives today. I confess all my sins. Forgive me, Lord. From today, I surrender my life to You and take on the life of Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
