Foundations in everything are extremely important. Be it a family, business, ministry, home, career, house, and your life, whatever you can think of, and name it, it all needs to be built on the right foundations. In Psalms 11:3-5 KJV, the Bible says, “If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do?”
When your foundations are not set right, whatever you try to do, or build will not stand. Even more, it will not withstand the storms of life when they come. So many times we can live and build our lives, on the wrong foundations.
What are your life’s foundations built on?Jesus’ words for setting the right foundationsRight foundations are necessary for spiritual effectiveness
The issue is not the building in and of itself, but whether the foundation you are building on will make it all last. The first wrong foundation, that needs correction, is making sure the Lordship of Jesus Christ is in your life. This ensures that anything we do, as far as life is concerned, we do it for the glory of God.
In 1 Corinthians 3:11 KJV, the bible says “For no other foundation can any man lay than that which is Jesus Christ.”Notice in this verse it says Jesus Christ must be the foundation. If you make Jesus Christ the foundation of your life, you have done the first step well, but it does not end here. Why should Jesus be the Lord of your life? Because life first begins in the spiritual and then manifests in the physical. The spiritual foundations need to be set up correctly for the physical life to operate in harmony with God.
Many things can happen in life, that you were not expecting to happen. Most of them happen not because you are a bad person, but because amid the good God has planned for all mankind, you have an arch nemesis, the devil called satan, who does not want you to enjoy the goodness of God in your life.
What are your life’s foundations built on?
Jesus emphasized the importance of building on the right foundation, in Matthew 7:24-27, he showed you and me that life will happen. Storms of life will come, and we must all be prepared for them when they show up. Let’s take a look at what he had to say,
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
The rock is Jesus Himself, and the rain, streams, and winds are the storms of life. Everything you can think of that is thrown against you, for you not to succeed or make it. Notice that the storm did come, and beating did happen, but because Jesus is at the foundation, you can withstand the storms of life. This means that when you have Jesus Christ in your life you can withstand anything against you.
Jesus also mentioned something that we should not forget. He said, “Anyone who hears, these words of mine, and does not do them, is like a foolish man, who built his house on sand.”
Jesus’ words for setting the right foundations
Jesus here was talking about the principles of the Kingdom of God. The prescriptions by which we should therefore live. There are principles of the Kingdom of God that He wanted us to be aware of. Principles that help us operate life supported by the right foundation of the rock, Jesus Christ. These words are found in the word of God in the bible.
And the sand represents all other principles, and prescriptions you try to live by that do not come from the word of God. You can be sure of this if Jesus is not the Lord of your life, and when you are living life outside of the Kingdom of God. This is why He wants you to live a righteous life, but righteousness is not a life you live by good deeds and physical effort. It’s a vicarious life that comes out of you naturally when you have Christ in you, living empowered by the holy grace of God.
This is why the psalmist wrote, “If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do?” Psalms 11:3-5 KJV.
Everything described in the parable by Jesus shows us that life is first spiritual, and the house described in it is a metaphor for everything that embodies and constitutes your life, that house references, first of all, you! You are His house.
That is why the book of 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are”.
The first of these begins in Jesus Christ, the rock. And when we have Him in us, we can live by the principles of the Kingdom of God, and overcome anything the devil throws at us.
You can graduate, get a good job, have successes in the physical, and so forth, but if the foundations are not set right, you will be fought and you will not be able to stand, the same applies to all the extensions that proceed from your life, business, family, work, ministry and more. You will continue to build on sand, and one day you will not be able to withstand the heavy blows that the devil throws at you in life.
Lay the right foundations, let Jesus be the Lord of your life, and begin to live by the principles of the Kingdom of God. When He is Lord, you stand a better chance ahead. God wants to step in but there may be a limitation, that creates a barrier for the holy spirit to introduce God’s grace and power.
Right foundations are necessary for spiritual effectiveness
God has honoured the modus operandi of His spiritual Kingdom, see Isaiah 38:3. He does not violate the spiritual principles because life is first spiritual and then physical. That is why man is born and dies, He has a beginning and an ending, but not God, God is eternal, would you not want your life to live from and through the eternal one?
People are first conceived spiritually, then are born into this world, live life, and eventually die and live on spiritually. Only the body goes to the ground, but your spirit lives on either with God (in heaven) or with satan (in hell).
So when Jesus is the Lord of your life you allow him to work in your life, you live life on the correct spiritual side, and when the devil throws storms at you, you will stand. Lay the right foundations, and continue to live by “these words of mine” as He said, which are the principles of the Kingdom of God from the bible.
When this is done right you stand a better chance at enjoying life and overcoming everything thrown your way.
God bless!
