Why you should invest your life in consistent prayer and fasting

There is an investment required of prayer and fasting, to walk in authentic spiritual power in your life, whilst doing God’s plan and purpose. There are principles that can help you develop an effective prayer life so powerful to change your life.

As for prayer, Jesus told us something we should never forget. “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Luke 18:1 KJV He knows that prayer is not easy, and the will of man does not want to do the will of God.

If you want to know and walk in power to fulfil God’s perfect plan for your life, you need to live a prayerful lifestyle, that involves fasting as God would have it in Isaiah 58. Pray even to know your assignment in life and what God has for the very purpose of your life in Christ. Taking moments to fast and pray opens up destiny-prepared blessings to you.

Whatever God has spoken to you about your life requires regular prayer and fasting, for the things God brings to your spirit, such as ideas or dreams, will need to be withdrawn from the spirit realm into your life.

Every person has a prayer bank with God. In this bank, you deposit prayers, and spiritual deeds of righteousness, that help to align you with God’s plan for your life. As you do this daily you maintain your account in the Kingdom.

It fixes wrong circumstances to work in your favour

Fasting affects your spirit, soul and body. It fixes wrong circumstances to work in your favour, and persistent prayer also affects changes. Reading the rest in Luke 18:2-8, you will see what more prayer can do if you do not faint, as Jesus encouraged us to do in the first verse.

‭Luke 18:2-8 KJV‬ “There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: and there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterwards, He said within himself. Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?  I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”

Notice in this parable, Jesus was highlighting that there are people, things, and places where if not with persistent prayer you may not be able to get ahead or make progress because these things can have no regard for God, nor man, they can even be so evil that, they don’t care about you but their own. It could be in your personal life, or your assignment from God.

As long as you want to achieve something in life you will have to pray, and also be persistent at that, because life is spiritual and you are dealing with evil spirits, that have no regard for man, nor do they fear what God has said to you, and planned for you. When you pray, and push forward in prayer God can intervene and make them respond and change in answer to your favour.

Prayer and fasting helps you receive revelations from the Holy Spirit

Prayer can put something on your gift, idea, work, or home, which you can never get by intellectual capability. It is also in the place of prayer where you will receive many revelations from the Holy Spirit, direction, guidance and strategies. While you pray, give yourself also to moments of fasting, because fasting opens up your spiritual sensitivity to align with God’s plans and thoughts, and ultimately it also empowers you to follow through under the plans and thoughts of God.

Receiving God’s plan and purpose through prayer and fasting

There are times when you need to be sure you are aligned not only with the plans of God in your life, but also with His thoughts in your life, and without prayer and fasting, you will have moments where you might veer the course from God’s plans and purpose for you.

God always wants you to be synchronised with Him because He has good plans and thoughts. They are much higher than you may comprehend, and at most times they only manifest or happen when you fast, pray and align with Him.

This is why He says in ‭Jeremiah 29:11 KJV‬ “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” or in Jeremiah 29:11 NIV‬ “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

These plans and thoughts are always bigger, and better than where you are today. They are always for your progress and His glory. Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV‬ “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

There are always bigger and better things that God has in store for you, and only come as you pray regularly and fast every so often. You may only perceive or comprehend them when He speaks to you in prayer. Sometimes all you have to do to discover His plans and thoughts for the season of your life is to ask Him whilst praying and fasting.

In Jeremiah 33:3 NIV‬ He says to us “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Can you see that there are things you still do not know, and which can only be revealed in the place of prayer?

‭He even wants you to ask for your inheritance to be delivered to you, that’s how big it can get. God wants you to have the nations, and the uttermost parts of the earth, because everyone has an inheritance in Christ. He says, “Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” Psalms 2:8 NIV‬

As you pray and fast, you receive the power to fulfil God’s will, embodied in His purpose and plan for your life. In Luke 4: 1-13, Jesus fasted and prayed, for His purpose and assignment to be fulfilled in power. In Luke 14, we are shown what happened soon after Jesus finished fasting. He had overcome the temptations of satan, and He came back from it with the power of the spirit, and his fame spread abroad, He taught and was glorified.

He came to do God’s will and fulfil God’s purpose for Him. It empowered Him to execute and teach the word of God in power. With this all resistance broke loose, that is why His fame spread abroad and was glorified.

What is it that you want to achieve in Life, what is it God has planned for you? Do you know it and have also prayed about it, or fasted in light of this?

Pray and fast for God to reveal and for it to happen. Persistently continue, until you see God’s glory in your life. God planned for you to progress through prayer, and be empowered with fasting as you live in your purpose. He also wants you to be notable and glorified through Him.

God bless.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ who died for my sins on the cross. I believe that He is the Son of God, who died, was raised, and lives today. I confess all my sins. Forgive me, Lord. From today, I surrender my life to You and take on the life of Christ. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
